Project Intelligence Setup
Summary
Project Intelligence monitors your team's conversations in Slack, Teams, Telegram, or WhatsApp and automatically extracts signals β blockers, progress updates, decisions, and risks β so you always know what's happening inside each project without asking for status updates.
Before You Start
You are signed in as company admin.
At least one project exists in Asa (see: [Track project hours and budgets](#)).
You have a Slack, Teams, Telegram, or WhatsApp channel where your team discusses this project.
Your company is on Growth plan or above.
What Project Intelligence Does
When you connect a conversation source to a project, Asa passively reads messages in that channel and extracts structured signals every 24 hours. You see:
Blockers β things stopping progress
Progress updates β work moved forward
Decisions made β recorded for future reference
Risks β identified threats to delivery
AI task suggestions β actionable items the AI noticed that could become tasks
Nothing is sent to your team. Asa reads, extracts, and presents to you β that's it.
Steps
1. Open Projects
Go to Projects in the left sidebar.
2. Select the project you want to monitor
Click a project card to open the project panel.
3. Start the setup flow
In the project panel, click Set Up Project Intelligence (or the configure button if a watcher already exists). This opens the 4-step setup wizard.
4. Choose a conversation source
Select the platform (Slack, Teams, Telegram, or WhatsApp) and pick the specific channel or conversation where your team discusses this project.
Note: You can add multiple sources to the same project (e.g. a Slack channel AND a Teams channel). Asa monitors all of them.
5. Review and confirm
The wizard shows a summary of what will be monitored. Confirm to activate.
6. Check the Pulse tab
After setup, the project panel shows a Pulse tab. Asa will begin processing recent messages. The first signals typically appear within a few hours as Asa catches up on recent conversation history.
What Happens Next
Asa processes new messages every 24 hours and adds new signals automatically.
If Asa finds something actionable, it creates an AI task suggestion you can approve or dismiss.
The project card on the portfolio view shows a health indicator (on track / watch / at risk) based on signal patterns.
You can pause or disable monitoring at any time from the project panel.
Health Status Explained
Status | What it means |
|---|---|
On track | No active blockers, positive or neutral momentum |
Watch | Some risk signals present, no critical blockers yet |
At risk | Active blocker(s) detected or significant negative momentum |
Warming up | Recently connected β still processing first windows |
Common Mistakes
Connecting a general team chat instead of the project-specific channel. Fix: use the channel where this project is actively discussed. High-noise channels produce low-quality signals.
Expecting instant results. Fix: signals appear after Asa processes the first 24-hour window. Initial catch-up can take a few hours.
Assuming WhatsApp works the same as Slack/Teams. Fix: WhatsApp support is synchronous only β it works for CPI signal ingestion but has no proactive notification capability.
Troubleshooting
- Symptom: Pulse tab shows "No signals yet" after several hours.
Likely cause: channel has very low message volume, or the selected source is inactive.
Fix: verify the source channel has recent activity, then re-check after the next processing cycle.
- Symptom: Signals look unrelated to the project.
Likely cause: source channel is too broad (e.g. a general company channel).
Fix: disconnect the broad source and reconnect with a more project-specific channel.
- Symptom: Project intelligence setup option is greyed out.
Likely cause: your plan does not include Project Intelligence (Growth+ required).
Fix: upgrade your plan or contact your admin.
